TOPOGRAFIAS A NORTE - HÉLDER SOUSA, MARTA FERREIRA & SÉRGIO ROLANDO

Topografias a Norte, published in the Projects collection, is the result of a documentary photography work developed by three emerging photographers, on the Northern territory of Portugal. Their photographic projects have a geographical and thematic proximity which justifies their joint publication in a book for this collection, being our goal, through this common issue of space, to create synergies between the three projects, while enhancing the specificity that distinguishes them and the proximity that unites them. Thus, “Unfinished Projects” by Hélder Sousa, “EN12” by Marta Ferreira and “Planalto Barrosão” by Sérgio Rolando, reveal us three different looks, but at the same time critical on certain territories in the Northern Portugal: the urban landscape of the Valongo municipality, the landscape of a “beltway” and the protected landscape of the Planalto Barrosão.

ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
Projects collection is the publishing media for noteworthy projects linked to Documentary and Artistic photography related with Architecture, City and Territory.
Our goal is to disseminate significant work and new authors who critically analyse and study Architecture using photography, as their main research tool. This means, besides other things, understanding Architecture as a broad subject and practice interested in, on the one hand, the real space and its experiences, exploring new spatial forms and architectural codes and, on the other hand, in how architecture operates within larger systems: socio-cultural, technical, and historical systems.
We are also interested in encouraging photographic projects that integrate the documentary and artistic worlds in order to create synergies between them. This will have as result an innovative reading and understanding about the territory and how people appropriate the spaces where they live and work in our contemporary world.

The universe of interest of scopio editions is, generically, that of Architectue, Art and Image (AAI) and, specifically, that of Documental and Artistic Photography related with Architecture, City and Territory. SCOPIO Editions has a dynamic structure integrating periodical and non-periodical publications, with the aim of divulging the several works and authors who use or research the universe of Architecture, Art and Image, with special focus on Documentary and Artistic photography, related with Architecture, City and territory, in a critical, exploratory and innovative approach.
